William “Bill” Douglas Marshall, 70, of Sweet Home, passed away Friday, June 27, 2025. He was born August 23, 1954 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His parents were Margaret Eileen and Ned Larison Marshall.

Bill grew up in Hood River, OR. Graduating from Hood River Valley High School. He attended Oregon State University for 2 years then transferred to Central Oregon Community College where he graduated in Forestry. After a short time in the Forest Service he moved to Sweet Home where he took a job at Cascade Timber Consulting, Inc. Growing, Protecting Trees for tomorrow! He worked for them for 42 years.

Bill had so many interests. He tied his own flies for many fly fishing excursions, many of those trips with “Uncle” Donnie Cherrington and later when she was old enough a lot of them with daughter Natalie. He loved hunting, most anything was game. Geese, ducks, pheasant, quail, deer, elk, beaver, mink, muskrat, squirrel, bull frogs, grey diggers, skunks. Part of the hunt included tasty mushrooms and all sorts of berries. Then there were butter clams, razor clams, cockles, scallops, gooey ducks.

Rock hounding was another passion he had fun with. He was a person who knew a colossal amount of everything. He could give you a geography lesson on any drive telling you why, when or how this ridge or this mountain happened to be where it is. He was eager to teach anyone anything he thought they needed to know. He was very proud of his greenhouse and he probably would have given Johnny Appleseed a run for his money on who planted more trees.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Marshall of Sweet Home; son, Joe (Carly) Marshall of Albany; daughter, Natalie (Sam) Rivera of Scio; mother, Margaret Marshall of Hood River; sisters: Mary Sue Benton of Hood River, Peggy (Woody) Woodruff of Hood River, Joani (Rod) Howell of Medford; bonus son Ryan (Jenny) Daniels of Lebanon and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Ned Marshall (2017); Auntie Mair (2011); brother in law Steve Benton (2018).

Celebration of life will be 1 – 4 pm Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Sweet Home Elks Lodge.
