Victor Fletcher Schilling, 79, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Thursday, April 16. He was born in The Dalles to Victor Frederick and Frances Mae (Kershner) Schilling.

Victor grew up in The Dalles and learned how to work hard at home and in the fields. He was involved with Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout. In his younger years, he also enjoyed martial arts and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In the Army, Vic became a paratrooper in the Special Forces. He was stationed in Germany and deployed to Southeast Asia in preparation of the Vietnam War. He also served in Vietnam.

Vic married Irene Hilliard May 6, 1961. He worked as a supervisor for Georgia Pacific in Fort Bragg, California as a journeyman machinist and retired after 17 years. They returned to Holley in 1995 where Vic owned and operated the Holley Market for several years.

He is survived by: his children, Linda Duran of Lebanon, Sidney Marks, Vicky Arreguin, and Darrell Schilling, all of Sweet Home; siblings, Irene Knight, Madeline Kalhar, and Charla Dinnocenzo, all of Gresham, and Merritt Schilling of Brownsville, William Schilling of Sweet Home, Janis Gilmore of Vancouver, Washington, and Donald Schilling of Sweet Home; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Vic was preceded in death by: his wife of 50 years, Thelma Irene (Hilliard) Schilling (2011); parents, Victor Schilling and Frances Mae Schilling (2011); sister, Donna Epperson; one niece and four nephews.
