Vera Luvern Palmer, 93, of Sweet Home passed away Wednesday morning. She was born in Claire City, South Dakota to Leslie and Ella (Beling) Birdsall.

Vera came west with her family after graduating from high school. She married Claud E. Palmer in 1938. They met in North Dakota prior to their marriage and reconnected in Oregon a few years later.

Vera was a member of the Church of Christ and attended many years before her stroke 15 years ago. She worked for the Sweet Home School District as a payroll clerk. Vera enjoyed needlework, knitting, and crocheting. She enjoyed gardening with her husband at their home for many years.

Vera is survived by: her daughters, Claudia Palmer of Sweet Home and Ruth Palmer of Lake Oswego; son, Paul Palmer of Eugene; grandchildren, April, Mark, and Sarah; brothers, Bill Birdsall of Sweet Home and Leslie Birdsall of Walnut Creek, California; and sisters, Pearl Kimball of Newport and Florence Robeson of McMinville. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001 and brother, Wilbur Birdsall, during WWII.
