Twila Rose McTimmonds Emmert passed away February 10, 2007 at the age of 85; 10 days before her 86th birthday.

She was born February 20, 1921 in Hubbard. She was the second of seven children born to Elmer and Clysta (Nice) McTimmonds.

In her youth she lived in Portland, graduating from the eighth grade at Chapman Grade School in 1935. After that the family moved to Sheridan, where in her late teenage years she worked at the Glove Factory in McMinneville along with several of her girlfriends. May 14, 1939 she was married to John Mark Emmert, a resident of Sweet Home. The young couple resided in Sweet Home until 1952. For several years in the late 1940’s, Twila worked for Cardwells five and dime store in Sweet Home.

They moved to Huntington Beach for a few months, then to Sacramento, California, where they were part of a rescue mission team for about one year, and then moved back to Sweet Home. In 1955 they traveled to Mexico to be missionaries along with Cecil and Faye Byers of Silverton, Oregon. In 1956 they returned to Sweet Home. The organization they started became The Latin American Fellowship which continues to this day.

During their initial stay in Sweet Home, 1939 until 1952, Mark had worked in the logging industry with his uncles and father. In 1956 or 1957 those uncles got out of the logging business and started a road construction company. During the ensuing years Mark and Twila traveled to many construction sites all over Oregon and Washington.  Following that period of time, Mark did custodial work in different churches where they lived, and Twila worked for the J. C. Penney company in Salem, Beaverton, and Phoenix, Arizona.  Then, once again they moved back to Sweet Home. In 1996 Twila was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. As is normal for that disease, the symptoms were mild at first, but grew worse with each passing year. Mark passed away in 2000 at the age of 79 while both of them were living with George and Jan Elser in Oregon City. Since that time Twila has resided in nursing homes in Oregon City.

Twila was an excellent home maker. Among the things she liked to do were sewing, knitting, cooking, and gardening. Twila and Mark also made many one-day trips to the beach. She was a good mother and friend and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Twila is survived by brother, Berle McTimmonds of Grants Pass; sister, Elsie Emmert of Manvel, Texas; sister, Sarah Chupp of McMinneville; sister, Iris Birkey of Salem; children, Gerald Emmert of Sandy, Janice Elser of Soldotna, Alaska, and John Emmert of High Point, North Carolina; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark, and two sisters, Hazel and Audrey.
