A viewing will be 12 pm, Saturday, May 17th followed by a 1 pm service at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Gilliland Cemetery. Shirley Jean Smith (McMahan/Jones) 72, of Sweet Home, passed away on May 2, 2025 surrounded by loving family. Shirley was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on May 4, 1952, to Avery “Mac” and Esther (Niemann) McMahan.
Shirley moved to Lebanon at the age of 5 with her family. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1970 and she married Danny Jones that summer and had three beautiful children: Bradley, Carissa and Suzanne. She later moved to Sweet Home in June of 1983. Shirley married Harland Smith on July 30, 1983 and they had a beautiful daughter Ashley. Shirley lived in the same home until her death. She worked at White’s Electronics for over 40 years, holding many titles, but ended her career as Engineering Documentation Administrator.
Throughout her life, Shirley enjoyed oil painting, gardening, attending concerts (George Strait-her all time favorite, Tom Petty, Air Supply, Baucman Turner and the Righteous Brothers.) She also enjoyed traveling to sunny destinations where she could sunbathe for hours upon end.
Shirley is survived by her husband Harland Smith of Sweet Home; children: Bradley Jones and wife Sherry of Santee, CA; Carissa and husband Keith Logan of Albany; Suzanne Smith of Sweet Home; Ashley and husband Chad Tenbusch of Sweet Home; siblings: Helen Foster of Andersonville, TN; Bob McMahan wife Betty of Vale, OR; Terry McMahan of Livingston, TX; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers Gary and Dennis McMahan and sister-in-law Chris McMahan.
