Ruth Ellen Chestem Arndt, 85, of Sweet Home died peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 12, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ruth was born in Decatur, Nebraska on September 3, 1926 to Abner K. and Frances I. (Foltz) Chestem.

She graduated from the University of Nebraska and traveled worldwide as a TWA flight attendant. She was independent and adventurous, traveling through Europe and living life to the fullest. On August 17, 1956, Ruth married Don A. Arndt, and together they shared many years of happiness.

Ruth had a passion for teaching and taught elementary school for 30 years. She had a heart for children and educated through love, patience, and inspiration, touching the lives of many.

She was was a member of the Assembly of God Church, 39-Forever Club, and Home Extension, and served as president of the local Rosie the Riveter’s Club. Ruth enjoyed teaching Sunday school, gardening, and was interested in the genealogy of her Norwegian ancestors. What she loved most was spending time with her family.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Don.

Ruth is survived by: her sister, Martha Chestem; her children, Linda Klarquist (and her husband, Kenneth), Becky Campora (and her husband Greg), Don C. Arndt (and his wife, Bonnie), Janeen Weigel (and her husband, Ron); 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her loyal dog, Scout.

We will miss her dearly, rejoicing in the memories of the wonderful life she lived. Ruth’s legacy was her devotion, commitment, and unconditional love. Ruth was a positive force and bright light in the lives of her friends and family.
