Ronald A. Frye, 70, of Lebanon passed away Wednesday at his home. He was born in Milford, New Hampshire to George and Alma (Vander-Hayden) Frye.

He attended Milford High School and graduated in 1958. He played numerous sports, but basketball was the sport he excelled in. In 1958, his team won the state championship.

Ron loved playing, singing, and writing music from a young age. He and his brother, Leon, put together a band in 1968 and they headed for San Diego, California, playing music there for a long while. One night they were the lead band on stage for Janis Joplin.

Ron left the band and came to Oregon. He found work in construction and painting and managed a mobile home park in Lebanon. Ron continued to write and play music and has recorded a couple CDs. He attended St Edward’s Catholic Church regularly and began writing songs of faith. Ron played guitar and sang with the choir and the charismatic prayer group. This became his biggest joy.

Ron is survived by his brother, Leon, of New Hampshire and children: James Frye of Georgia, Cynthia Upshaw of Georgia, and Jennifer Maloney of Florida. He was preceded in death by: his mother, Alma; his younger brother Gary; and his former wife, Vivian.

A funeral mass will take place at 12:00 pm Friday, September 17, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Lebanon. Rosary will begin at 11:15. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul through the church office.
