Nettie May McCain Mealue, 81, of Sweet Home passed away peacefully Thursday, February19, 2026 after a week of treasured visits by family and friends. She was born May 6, 1944 to Birdie Pauline (Hale) and John Franklin Loper in Lansing, Michigan.

Nettie May was raised with her sisters in Empire, Oregon. She married Douglas McCain in 1961, they had three children she raised as a single mother with the help of friends and her church.

Nettie May was an incredible woman of God who’s greatest joy in life was raising her three children. She found purpose in being the hands and feet of Jesus, praying with and loving many women and their families throughout her lifetime. Nettie was the director of HOPE in Sweet Home. She volunteered doing church work, Bible studies, and was the coordinator for women’s
ministries. She also taught preschool and kindergarten in her earlier years.

Nettie May enjoyed embroidery, knitting, crocheting and scrapbooking. She had the honor of passing these skills and hobbies on to her granddaughters. She enjoyed walks in the rain, and especially loved spending time on the Oregon Coast.

Nettie married Wayne Thomas Mealue in 2011. She treasured time with his family and grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling together the first few years of their marriage, visiting Virginia, Florida, Missouri and Montana.

Nettie leaves behind her husband Wayne “Tom” Mealue, her sisters Lula and Flora, along with her brother Michael (Patsi) Toney.

Nettie May’s legacy continues through her daughter Rebecca (David) Buller, her four grandchildren from Becky and Rick (Peggy), and growing number of great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband Douglas McCain (2004), her daughter Cynthia May McCain (2004), and her son Richard Bruce McCain (2014).

A celebration of life will be held on her birthday, May 6th, 2pm at River of Life Fellowship in Sweet Home OR. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Sweet Home River of Life Women’s Ministry.
