Melvin Morris, 83, of Junction City died March 2nd of Vascular Disease. He was born May 29, 1923 to Aaron and Clara (Lewis) Morris at their home in Sweet Home.

Melvin was the direct descendent of the pioneer, Lowell Ames, and Alvin Perry Morris families who scouted and traveled via covered wagons to settle and found Sweet Home. He entered the US Navy during WWII and honorably served as a gunners mate aboard the USS Dewey. After the war, he returned to Sweet Home and married his wife Helen Elaine Hufford. They farmed in Prineville, started a business in Burns, and, after settling in West Eugene, worked for McCracken Brothers Freights for over 35 years.

He excelled at hunting, fishing, gardening, camping and boating, but was poor at predicting the weather. His wife and family always came first. Dedicated, loyal, hard working, optimistic, honest, and fair, he was always in service to others.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Helen of Junction City; sons, Alan of Bend, Gale of Blue River; daughter, Marilyn of Eugene; brother, Grover of Post Falls, ID; grandsons, Doug, Brian, Colton, and Conner; granddaughter, Sara; and two great-granddaughters.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Clara, his brother, Forest, and his sister, Juanita Miner.

Viewing will be 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday, March 10, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
