A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 1, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m., Friday, April 1, at Gilliland Cemetery.

Mary “Estelle” Plunkett, 93, of Sweet Home, passed away at Samaritan Wiley Creek on Tuesday. She was born in Sawyer, Oklahoma to Thomas R. and Lola May (Carter) Gregory.

Estelle married Ivan Daniel in 1936. Ivan was killed in a car accident in 1941.

Estelle worked in Paris, Texas in bakery for a short time before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she was employed at Douglas Aircraft Plant during World War II. Estelle moved to Sweet Home in 1945 and began working at Oregon Plywood where she met Barton Plunkett. They married in 1947.

Estelle worked at Sweet Home City Hall until moving to Eugene in 1956 where she began working at the Eugene Courthouse. She retired in 1977 after working 20 years as county clerk. She returned to Sweet Home and was an active volunteer at the Senior Center when it was located on Long Street. Estelle was very active in her church and always helped those in need of transportation to doctor appointments and shopping.

Estelle is survived by: her daughter, Wilma and son-in-law Larry Coulter; granddaughters, Pam Pestalozzi, Teresa and husband Ken Aiello, and Dottie McArtor; grandson, Larry Jay and wife Akemi Coulter; eleven great grandchildren and ten great, great grandchildren; niece, Judy and husband Gary Thompson; and nephew, Bob and wife Shelly Gregory.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Bart Plunkett; parents, Tom and Lola Gregory; and brothers, Roy Gregory and Tom Gregory.
