Mary E. Nelson, 95, of Lebanon, Oregon passed away Saturday, March 21. She was born in Lexington to Roy and Helen (Kirk) Tyler. She passed away three hours from her 96th birthday.

She moved to Willamina about 1922, then to West Stayton in 1928, on to North Santiam/Berlin area in 1932, and finally moving to Mt. Home near Liberty in about 1938. She lived in the Mt. Home area ever since, except for 11 years when Mary lived in Alaska at the Tyler Brothers Logging Camp where her husband, Ed, worked as a mechanic for her brothers.

Mary graduated from Lebanon High School in 1937 and worked at the Old Lebanon Hospital started by the Schuler sisters for about a year. She then attended beauty college in Salem and worked at Pearl’s beauty shop in Sweet Home for many years. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Waterloo Chapel.

She loved gardening, reading the Bible and good books, working in the yard, and going on outings with her sisters and nieces. She loved to have people over and was a wonderful hostess.

Mary is survived by: her children, Steve Nelson and his wife, Willow, of Sweet Home, Phil Nelson of Lebanon, and Mark Nelson of Alaska; grandchildren, Nicholas, Kristi, and Rachel; seven great grandchildren, all of Sweet Home; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ed, in 2001; an infant son, David, in 1951; and ten siblings.
