Marjorie Louise Wilson, 95, of Sweet Home passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026. Marjorie L. Wilson was born on July 29, 1930, in Beloit, Kansas. She was the youngest child of John and Cecilia Freeby. She was raised in Mankato, Kansas, and attended school there, graduating in 1948. She was very involved in high school activities, including cheerleading her senior year.
After her high school graduation, she moved to Portland, Oregon, where she worked until she married Gale R. Wilson. They were married in Boise, Idaho, on September 12, 1949. The two made their home in Sweet Home, Oregon, where Gale worked at Willamette Industries for 43 years. Their lives were blessed with a son, Michael, a daughter, Brenda, and a son, Kelly. They have two granddaughters, Kimberly Emmert and Nicole Hyland, and two great-grandchildren, Caden and Jorie Emmert. Marjorie was a homemaker and enjoyed supporting their children, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren in their activities.
She joined Sweet Home Chapter #164 of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1958 and later became a lifelong member. From 1974 to 1975, she served as Worthy Grand Matron for the State of Oregon. In 1978, she became Supreme Deputy for the State of Oregon in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and after years of service, Marjorie served as Supreme Worthy Advisor for the world organization during the 2000-2002 term. While serving, she was invited by the Masonic Grand Lodges of Bolivia, Brazil, and Aruba to organize and start Rainbow assemblies for the girls in these countries. She and her husband traveled extensively during these years of service to many jurisdictions throughout the United States, Canada, and many other nations, enjoying the friends they made. She helped shape the lives of many young women in all walks of life throughout the world through Rainbow.
After her term, Marjorie was invited by the Oregon Masonic Grand Lodge to become the first woman to serve as a director and vice president of the Masonic Charities Foundation of Oregon. She was a member of the Sweet Home United Methodist Church. Later, she was a resident of Wiley Creek Assisted Living for seven years. She enjoyed the residents, staff, and the wonderful care they provided. It is with heartfelt gratitude from her family to Angela Clark RN, the med techs, caregivers, staff at Wiley Creek, Lori Boyd RN, and Evergreen Hospice for the loving, caring, compassionate care that was given to Mom and her family. It will always be remembered.
Her family was her greatest pride and joy, and she is survived by her son, Mike (Cheri) Wilson of Gothenburg, NE; her daughter, Brenda (Larry) Hyland of Sweet Home, OR; and her son, Kelly Wilson of Waimea, HI. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Kimberly Emmert of Silverton, OR, and Nicole Hyland of Burien, WA; her great-grandchildren, Caden and Jorie Emmert, both of Silverton, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-seven years, Gale Wilson (2016); her parents and siblings; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Marjorie asked that donations be made to Shriners’ Children’s Portland, Office of Philanthropy, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Rd, Portland OR, 97239-3009, where her husband was a Shriner, and her great-granddaughter is currently receiving treatment.
