Loyd Louis Sloan, age 81, of Sweet Home passed away Thursday at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. He was born in Spring Valley, Arkansas to James Louis and Virginia (Vanderpool) Sloan.

As a child, Louis grew up on a farm in Wesley, Arkansas; one of nine boys and two sisters.

He served in the Army during World War II from January 1945 to September 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific.

In October 1946, he married Dorene Burdick in Fayetteville, Arkansas. In 1947 they moved to Tonasket, Washington. They later moved to Sweet Home making this their home, working in the woods. Later, working at Cascade Handle Company until retirement.

Louis is survived by his wife, Dorene; daughters, Leah Hart of Memphis, Tennesee and Ruth Lytle of Las Vegas, Nevada; brothers, Lawerence Sloan of Sweet Home, Bill Sloan of Belle Plane, Kansas, John Sloan of Niland, California, Walter Sloan of Winfield, Kansas, and Leonard Sloan of Wesley, Arkansas; and sister, Ruby Lindabury of Mulvane, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Roy Sloan of Branch, Arkasas, Lester Sloan of Wesley, Arkansas, and Don Sloan of Alachua, Florida; and sister, Wilma Laningham of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

A viewing will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 4, at Church of Christ, 3702 E Long Street in Sweet Home. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m.
