Lance Eugene Davenport, 86, of Albany (formerly of Sweet Home) passed away Monday of abdominal cancer. He was born in Bismark, North Dakota to Lewis O. and Florence (Fitch) Davenport.

Lance attended grade and high school in North Dakota. He graduated from Hazelton High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army during WWII in Europe from February 1943 to February 1946.

Lance earned his associates degree from Bismarck Junior College in 1948. He was employed as a policeman for the Corps of Engineers. He also worked in the Housing Department at Riverdale, ND during construction of the world’s largest rolled earth dam, Garrison Dam at Riverdale, North Dakota from 1948 to 1965.

He was a life member of the Sweet Home Elks Lodge, holding treasurer and secretary offices. He was chairman of the Boys and Girls Hoop Shoot, Scholarship Committee. He was also a member of the American Legion, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Lion’s Club, Booster Club, and Sweet Home Traffic Safety Committee. Lance had been a past member of the Riverdale Community Church in North Dakota, and Elm Street Baptist Church in Sweet Home, Oregon.

Lance is survived by: his wife, Adeline Davenport of Albany; children, Lana G. Davenport of Albany, Larry A. Davenport of Tigard, Rik L. and wife Lynnie Davenport of Lebanon, Lance E. II and wife Julie Davenport of Abilene, Texas, and L. Scott and wife Ann Davenport of Bend; grandchildren, Christopher W. Davenport of Seattle, Washignton and Nicholas L. Davenport of Austin, Texas, Kerry Anne and husband Chester Miller of Sweet Home and Bradley Biesecker of Abilene, Texas; great-granchild, Jayce P. Miller of Sweet Home; and brother, Jerry L. Davenport of Peoria, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his great-grandchild, Cooper E. Miller.
