Katherine Laura Chenoweth, 93, of Sweet Home, passed away Monday at her home. She was born in Petrolia California to William Attys and Elizabeth (Dukes) Lockwood.

She grew up in Petrolia, California until High School. She moved to Ferndale in 1940 and went to school. She moved to Oakland, California at 18 in 1944. She married and moved to Hayward , California in 1949. She remarried and moved to Castro Valley, California in 1962. She moved to Washington in 1998. She finally settled in Sweet Home in 2000.

Kay did Temp work (mostly secretarial) until being offered a permanent position as lead secretary for the Legal Office of Robert O. Wright, ESQ. in Hayward, California. She worked for this Attorney at Law for over 35 years until his full retirement. Her position evolved from Lead Secretary to Office Manager/ Bookkeeper to Executive assistant/ Professional Legal Secretary. She also became a notary and obtained her private investigator’s license.

She was the leader of a group of campfire girls during most of the 1950’s. She was a member of 4H, Professional Legal Secretaries of California, Northern California Toy Fox Terrier Association, National Toy Fox Terrier Association, United Kennel Club, Stock Car Racer’s Association, Smith Family Association, International Order of Foresters, Northern California Square Dance Association and Campfire Girls. She was Volunteer of the week for her work at the Library. She was also active at the Senior Center for several years taking classes.

Kay enjoyed Gardening, Square Dancing, raising/ showing/ breeding/ and selling Toy Fox Terriers, stock car racing (Powder Puff Division) and Jigsaw puzzles. She was survived by daughters: Joan Kissinger of Tuolumne, California, Jeri Dodge, Molly Dodge both of Sweet Home, grandchildren: Kevin Dodge, Tahari Dodge both of Oregon, Kathleen Dodge, Staci Dickson, Danielle Kissinger, Erick Dodge all of California; 10 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister Rebecca Emberg; seven nieces and nephews.
