Juanita Sportsman, 91, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016. She was born in Vernonia to Henry E. and Elsie Louise (Robbins) Parker.

Juanita met and married Warren C. Sportsman in 1948. They lived in Winston where they raised their four children. They then moved to Alaska for a couple of years before retiring and moving to Sweet Home. For the last ten years, Juanita lived with her daughter, Toby, in Elmira.

When she was young, Juanita owned and operated a restaurant with her mother and was an excellent cook at other restaurants and cafes in Winston and Sweet Home. Later on, she and her husband owned a gas station in Winston. Juanita was also a teacher’s aide and loved working with handicapped children.

She loved to sew and she would sit for hours and embroider.

Juanita is survived by sons Rex and Rick Sportsman of Roseburg; daughter Toby Washburn of Elmira; grandchildren Stacie Aitken of Eugene, Wendy Novak and Brian Sportsman of Washington, Katy Sportsman of Washington, Bill Sportsman of Virginia, and April Sportsman and Kari Spencer of Roseburg; and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren C. Sportsman, and oldest son, Jon T. Sportsman.

Memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. She will be buried next to her husband at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home.
