John Dean “JD” Kast, 69, of Sweet Home passed from this earthly life at home in Sweet Home with his family at his side. He was born in Woodland, California on June 11, 1953 to Elmer A. and Loretta M. (Zuniga) Kast. He was to be the oldest child of four.

JD was an avid horsemen,  reader and outdoorsman all his life.  JD lived with his brother, Luke, in Sweet Home for many years and lead an active life hunting, fishing, reading, watching movies, road tripping, camping, coin collecting and visiting with friends and family.  He was active and going as much as his health allowed.  He loved his dogs and spoiled them with cuddles, conversation and an endless supply of treats.

He worked a variety of jobs in his life starting with working with siblings and cousins in the orchards, fruit sheds and hay fields of California at a young age.  He went on to work in a saw mill, as a firefighter and fire look out, spent time working on a dude ranch, drove truck, scrapped iron, worked construction and various agriculture jobs.

JD learned from his mother at a young age his need for a Savior and never lost his faith in Jesus Christ to forgive his sins.  He looked  forward to going “home” to heaven, especially in the last few months.

Many are left to miss and remember him including brothers: Elmer “Luke” Kast of Sweet Home;  Aaron “Dewey” Kast of Lexington, NE; sister Karen (Samuel) Lange of Lexington, NE; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle Kast and parents Elmer and Loretta.

A memorial gather will be held at a later date.
