James Robert Bennett, 87, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21st, in Albany. Jim was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to John and Ruth (Biery) Bennett.

When he was eight years old, his mother, Ruth, passed away. He was then raised by his father and step-mother, Alice Bennett. Jim grew up with six siblings: Larraine, Sonny, Paul, Esther, Pete, and Grace.

He was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War. Soon after the war, he married Emma Silva and, together, they had four children.

James worked for Willamette Industries in Sweet Home. He was well known for his sense of humor and boisterous laugh, his love of all animals, and the volunteer work he did in Sweet Home.

He is survived by his four children, Bill (Pam), Gary (Kari), Cindy (Gary), and Greg (Lisa) Bennett; six grandchildren, Rob, Amanda (Joel), Ashlei, Shelby, Cody, and Lexie; and two great grandchildren, Logan and Emma.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Emma.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2016 at Sweet Home Christian Church. Final burial with military honors will follow at Gilliland Cemetery.
