James Michael Shuell Sr.
November 16, 1947 – November 11, 2025
James Michael Shuell, Sr. passed away on November 11, 2025, after 77 well-earned years of life. He was surrounded by his wife and children — a place no better suited for the end of his adventure.
Born in Oregon City, OR on November 16, 1947, to Richard and Mary Jane Shuell, James was an Oregon City native and lived there happily with his family until his retirement to Sweet Home in 2020 with his wife, April.
A blue-collar man through and through, James worked hard in every facet of the scrap metal industry and could often be found tinkering with metal, even well into his retirement.
While work was a hobby for James — often uncovering unique and sometimes rare treasures — the outdoors were where he found his truest peace. An avid fisherman, James’ calm and patient nature suited him well for long, quiet days on the water, often with his children in tow.
James was a kind-hearted man with a warmth that could be felt in your bones. His gift of understated wit and gentle humor brought levity and comfort to those who knew him best. A sometimes reserved and unassuming man, when James spoke, those around him were always inclined to lean in and listen — and never left disappointed.
James, our beloved Jim, is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, April Shuell. His memory carries on through his five children: Tressa, Tymalaya, James Jr., Anthony, and Tyler. He also leaves behind fifteen beautiful grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Those who knew Jim will remember his calm energy in those misty early mornings on the water, his steadfast loyalty in life’s challenging moments, and his deep, consistent love felt in the unassuming parts of every day.
“Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other, that we still are.
… I am but waiting for you for an interval.
Somewhere. Very near. Just around the corner.
All is well.”
