Helen Elaine Morris, 92, of Eugene, Oregon (formerly of Sweet Home) passed away Saturday, April 29. She was born in Mehama to John and Mamie (Tolbert) Hufford.

After graduating from Sweet Home Union High School, she attended college for a short time. Helen married the love of her life, Melvin Morris, on August 14, 1946.

Helen grew up in Sweet Home on the Hufford Homestead. She moved to Burns and Prineville before moving back to Eugene to live and raise their three children. Then they retired to their country home near Fern Ridge.

Helen worked for the Bethel School District as a cook. She enjoyed bike riding, gardening, fishing and camping. In the 40s, Helen, her sister, Dorothy, and sister-in-law, Mardy, went on an amazing adventure and rode their bikes round-trip from Sweet Home to Crater Lake. Helen was devoted to her family, they were the most important thing in her life.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Morris; sons Gale Morris and Alan Morris; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; baby sister Delores Roberts; sister-in-law Mardy Hufford; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Morris; brothers and sisters Leslie Hufford, Frank Hufford, Tom Hufford, Hazel Renolds, Dorothy Elliott, and Belle Pattie.

Viewing will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 6, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., and will be followed by a reception. Final burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Helen’s name to Senior Meals Program: 25035 W. Broadway Ave., Veneta, Oregon 97487.
