Helen C. Higgins, 83, of Turlock, California passed away Tuesday while visiting family in Lebanon. She was born in Winslow, Arizona. She was raised by her mother, Ora (Keith) Parker, and step father, John Echols.

She moved from Arizona to California as a youth. She met Marvin Higgins in Southern California, and they were married September 13, 1946. They later moved to Turlock, California with their daughter.

Helen loved quilting, sewing, and knitting. She was a member of many quilting guilds. She enjoyed traveling by motor home in addition to cruises and other traveling. She was a member of Red Hat groups.

Helen was involved with many of the woman’s Shriners activities. Helen helped make care bears as a fundraiser the Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital. She and her husband helped organize the Aahmes Five Valley Special Ladies Club. Helen was a member of the Methodist churches in Banning and Turlock.

She is survived by: her daughter, Diana and her husband Mark Pool of Lebanon; sister, Ruth and her husband John Richardson of Arkansas; grandchildren, Heidi and her husband Wayne Vokes of Lebanon and Marc “J” and his wife Wendy Pool of Brownsville; great grandchildren, Donovin Vokes, Joshua Vokes, Brennan Pool, Bailey Pool, and Bain Pool; and her best friend and companion for the last 17 years, Ron Chambers of Denair, California.

Helen is preceded in death by: her husband, Marvin Higgins; sister, Leora Love; and her parents.

Helen’s motto always was Live Well. Love Much. Laugh Often.
