Gordon Mengore, age 82, of Sweet Home passed away Monday. He was born in Negaunee, Michigan to Anton and Lilly (Lampry) Mengore.

During his life, he lived in Michigan, Butte, Montana, and Sweet Home, Oregon. He lived in Sweet Home for 43 years.

Gordon served in the US Navy as a Seaman on the USS Wichita and the USS Boise in WWII. Afterwards, he worked as a miner in Michigan and Butte, Montana, and as a construction worker all of his life. He worked on building the Foster, Green Peter, and Blue River dams.

He was baptized as a Catholic.

He loved gold panning, fishing, playing cribbage, dancing, rock collecting, and wine making.

Gordon is survived by his two sons, Joe G. Mengore and David M. Mengore; two daughters, Karen L. Mengore-McCracken and Robin Partelow; sister, Margaret Rickenback of Detroit, Michigan; nine grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Final burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
