A memorial service with Military Honors is planned for 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014 at River of Life Fellowship 1658 Long St. Sweet Home. Dinner will be served afterwards.

George Duke Butler, 87, of Sweet Home passed away Monday, June 23, 2014. He was born in Leola, Arkansas to William Franklin and Carrie Bell (House) Butler. He was the youngest of four children.

The family moved to the Okanogan Valley in Washington when George was 14 years old.

George served in the United States Navy during WWII. He enlisted when he was 17.

He was in construction of hydro electric dams most of his career, and he also worked on the Alaskan pipeline.

George is survived by: his daughters, Joanne and her husband Tom West, Kay and her husband Perry Crocker, and JuDee Butler; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; brother Bill and his wife Evelyn Butler; his longtime companion, Gladys Hayes, and her daughters, Debbie Reeves and Melanie Langdon; and Gladys’s five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by: his son, James Butler; brother, Bob; sister, Mary Pickering; and grandson, Christopher James Duke.
