Floyd Carlos Kurtz, 85, of Sweet Home, Oregon died Tuesday, April 8, 2014. He was born in Mentor, Minnesota to Frank and Clara (Sather) Kurtz.

Floyd lived in Mentor until age 19 and moved to Tacoma, Washington while he briefly worked for Boeing. He then worked for Longview Fiber for ten years.

Floyd served in the army and was stationed in Korea from 1950 to 1952. In 1955, Floyd leased Les’s Tavern in Mill City for two years. He then worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for 28 years before he retired. Floyd moved to Sweet Home in 1966 where he resided the rest of his life.

He was a lifetime VFW member and a member of the American Legion. Floyd enjoyed outdoor activities and loved fishing, camping, and gardening.

He is survived by: step-daughters Jo Ellen Odle of Lyons, Wendy Beacham, Melana Mendez of Jefferson, and Laura Amundson of Vancouver, Washington; brother Donald Kurtz in Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren. Floyd was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Laurie Asher, and son, Frank Kurtz.
