Evelyn Ann Emmert, 90, formerly of Sweet Home, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026 in Salem. She was born March 3, 1936 in Longview, Washington to Les C. and Edna P. (West) Hostetler.
She grew up in Butteville, Oregon, and as a child, attended Butteville Elementary School. Ev attended North Marion High School until she moved to Western Mennonite High School her senior year.
Ev married Loren Emmert in June of 1956. They purchased a home on 43rd Avenue in Sweet Home, where they raised three sons, Doug, Steve and Greg. She served as the Administrative Assistant at Hawthorne School. There, she met Dan Borresen, the boy she and Loren would later add to the Emmert clan as their fourth son.
In February of 1978, just in time for Valentine’s Day, Loren and Ev opened Sweet Home Florist and Gift on Long Street in Sweet Home. The business was later moved to Main Street. Ev became well-known and loved as “the flower lady,” who created beautiful wedding flowers and provided flowers for the high school students and events. Through that business, Ev continued to love and parent half of the kids in Sweet Home.
Ev prioritized her faith and family above all else. She is survived by four sons, Doug (Peggy), Steve (Sandi), Greg (Angie), and Dan; nine grandkids, Shane Emmert (Jen), Brad Emmert (Selena), Chad Emmert (Katy), Ty Emmert (Joanna), Nicki Mitchell (Mikal), Bethany Dada (Al), Mitch Emmert (Heejin), Chris Emmert (Kenzi), and Colby Borresen; and nineteen great grandkids. In addition, she is survived by her sister Dorothy (Dick) Hansen, her sister-in-law Sandra (Leon) Olson, her brother-in-law Stan (Tess) Emmert, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren (2018), her parents, sister Carol Stringer and brother-in-law Denny Stringer.
