Elaine Davis, 94, of Albany, Oregon passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015. She was born in Wakefield, Michigan to John and Hannah (Carr) Harju.

During WWII Elaine served as a stenographer in the WAC, entering into active service July 6, 1944, at Ft. Oglethorpe, GA. While serving, she was issued the Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. On January 12, 1946, she received an honorable discharge at Ft. Sheridan, IL. She was a past participant in the Albany Veterans’ Day Parade.

She married George W. Davis in Los Angeles, CA on May 27, 1947. They moved to San Jose, CA where they lived for over 40 years. In June of 1999, Elaine and George moved to Albany to be near their daughter and her family.
While in San Jose, Elaine was a court recorder for the Assistant District Attorney of Santa Clara County. She loved to travel and, with her husband, was able to visit many places throughout the U.S., Europe, and South America. Playing golf and walking were two other activities she enjoyed and pursued them into her late 80s. She also enjoyed visiting local casinos as another favorite pastime.

Elaine was an active member of the Episcopal Church. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a sensitive and generous nature.

Elaine is survived by her daughter; Carol Leder of Albany; grandson Andrew Leder of Portland; granddaughter Holly Leder of Spokane, WA.; brother Orvid Harju of St. Joseph, MI and several nieces and nephews.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband George W. Davis in 1999 and siblings Earl Harju, Lillian Gilbert, and Norma Schmidt.
