Per his wishes, Doug was cremated and will be interred with his parents at the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Lebanon.

Douglas J. McKinnis, 90, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017. He was born in Corvallis to William and Ella (Sweek) McKinnis.

He was raised in Lebanon and worked at Crown Zeller-Bach Paper Mill before going into the United States Army at the end of World War II serving in Europe. Doug returned to Lebanon for a few years to sell insurance before moving to Sweet Home, where he called home for the past 57 years.

In Sweet Home, Doug owned the Tell & Sell paper for 20 years. After retirement, he worked for three years for Cliff Wagers, who owned the Coast to Coast store. Then, Doug worked for another 12 years in the print shop at White’s Electronics. He finally retired at 82 years.

He was active in the community serving as a volunteer fire fighter and a member of the Elks Club. He also worked a great deal with the Kiwanis Club where he helped rebuild Husky Stadium after fire destroyed it. He also helped with the planning of the skate park for the young people to enjoy, plus many other activities. He was also active in the Men’s Prayer Breakfast meetings held every Wednesday morning.

In his younger years, he enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends. Most of all, he loved playing golf with his friends, especially his longtime friend, Cliff Wagers.

Doug is survived by his two daughters, Sherry and Lisa McKinnis; nephews Mac Norvell and his wife, Pam, Joe Norvell and his wife, Karen, and John Norvell; niece Sue Patterson; grandchildren DJ and Payton; and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two brothers, and daughter, Tia.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 23, at Sweet Home Evangelical Church: 1347 Long Street.
