Douglas George Ashman, 83, of Eugene passed away Monday. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Giles Henry and Lorene (Eiting) Ashman.

In the early 1930s, the family moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon where Douglas attended first grade. They moved to Glendale, Oregon before moving to Roseburg, Oregon in 1944 where he finished school.

Douglas worked on and around the trucking industry. He was drafted into the US Army in 1951 and spent two years in Okinawa during the Korean war. Douglas met and married Mary Coyne in 1954.

He had two service stations, one in Roseburg, Oregon and another in Medford, Oregon, but went back to the trucking industry in 1958. Douglas moved to Springfield in 1960, and then to Eugene in 1977. He worked for Borden Chemical for 23 years and received many safe-driving awards before retiring in 1996.

Douglas is survived by: his wife, Mary; son, Steven Coyne; daughter, Diana Hooker; and brother, Marvin Ashman.
