Doris Avonne Bruce, 90, formerly of Sweet Home, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026 in Forest Grove. She was born August 5, 1935 to Imogene (Kanouse) and David Spears in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

She lived in Oklahoma, New Mexico, California and North Dakota. She came to Madras in 1944 and then moved to Sweet Home in 1952, graduating from Sweet Home High School in 1953. She married Mel Bruce on October 2, 1953 in Sweet Home.

Doris worked in various hospitals, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Dallas, and the DMV in Bend and Eugene. In 1975, she became a dorm counselor at Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, North Dakota for six years. Doris has worked with children and young adults in the Assembly of God Churches and schools for over 50 years.

She enjoyed all outdoors activities especially fishing and camping. Doris liked doing handmade crafts, puzzles and playing on the computer.

Doris is survived by her children: Melody and her daughter Michaela Bruce, Cindy Bruce and David Bruce; sister in law Edith Spears, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Imogene (1961), father David (1985) brothers Wayne (1961), John (1996) and David (2017).
