Donald Glenn Gross, 97, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Saturday, September 12, in Lebanon. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Glenn Dowling and Margaurite (Mathewson) Gross.

He served in the United States Army Railroad Operating Battalion A749 during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign (Philippines) from 1943 to 1946 and received an Honorable discharge.

Donald graduated from Battleground High School in 1937. He married Marjorie Bridge on September 17, 1938 in Vancouver, Washington. They lived in Baker City for over 40 years, then moved to Sweet Home in 1980. Donald and Marjorie were snowbirds in Apache Junction for 20 years. They resided at The Oaks in Lebanon for the last three years.

Donald worked on the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years.

Donald enjoyed rock hounding, traveling, reading, crossword puzzles, and fishing.

He is survived by: his wife of 76 years, Marjorie W. (Bridge) Gross; daughters Gail (husband, Gene Gregory) of Sweet Home and Genevieve (husband, Nicolas Wright) of Portland; son Glenn Gross (wife, Susan) of Shingle Springs, California; brother Russel Gross of Gladstone; sisters Marjorie Kumpala of Amboy, Washington, Mary Ellen Cleasby of Yachats, Lynelle Kumpala of Port Angeles, Washington; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Gross and William Gross.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
