Dicky “Dick” Dale Dimick, age 94, formerly of Foster, Oregon, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. He was born October 2, 1931, in Scotts Mills, Oregon, to Wiley Elvin and May Augusta (Yoder) Dimick.

Dick was one of ten children and the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and May Dimick, his nine siblings: Wiley Jr. “Shorty”, William “Bill”, George, Chauncey, Rex “Scotty”, Harry, Dorothy, Mary and Betty, and his great-grandson, Wiley Saunders. Growing up in a large family helped shape the resilience, work ethic, and steadfast loyalty for which he would be known throughout his life.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Dick served during the Korean War from January 1952 to December 1953. He held the rank of Corporal and served as a Track Vehicle Mechanic with Headquarters Battery, 2nd Infantry Division Artillery. Upon his honorable discharge, he was awarded two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. His service reflected his grit and determination—traits that remained with him throughout his life. He was known to always carry a small New Testament Bible in his chest pocket throughout his military service.

Following his military service, Dick devoted himself to a lifetime of honest work. He was employed as an auto mechanic for Fox Chevrolet, worked in construction with Berry Creek Construction, and later co-founded Dimick & Zimmerman (“D & Z”) Construction in Florence, Oregon. Upon returning to the Sweet Home area, he worked in the logging industry, as a choke setter and driving log trucks for Duncan and Moore Logging and Rice Logging
—trades that suited his mechanical skill, strength, and perseverance.

Dick had a lifelong love of baseball. He played at Sweet Home High School, where baseball scouts saw him play during his senior year and offered him the opportunity to play with a minor league team in Eugene, Oregon. Though honored by the offer, he was unable to accept due to the necessity of working a summer job.

Throughout his life, he never went anywhere without his baseball glove close at hand.

While living in Florence, he was a member of the Jaycees Club, participating in community service projects. He also raced cars at the Jaycee Speedway, racing on a team with his brother-in-law Bud Randolph and close friends, Alden Bauck and Bob Jones—an experience that brought him great excitement and lasting camaraderie.

Dick was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Shelly (Greg) Saunders and son Robert (Elizabeth) Dimick; grandchildren Robert “Jody” (Corinne) Saunders, Scott (Jennifer) Saunders, Kacia (Luke) Oliver, Seth (Monica) Dimick, Connor (Ashley) Dimick and Kylie (Kenny) Werth; great-grandchildren Lauren, Benson, Everleigh, Edith, Elroy, Miles, Nora and Leo; and a great-granddaughter expected in June 2026.

Those who knew Dick remember his strong work ethic, his deep loyalty to his family and friends, and a stubbornness that comes from a lifetime of standing by one’s principles. He took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and his legacy lives on through them.

Dick will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
