David Lee Cowger, 51, of Sweet Home passed away Wednesday. He was born in Hawthorne, California to Jon and Gloria Cowger. David’s family moved to Las Vegas 1962 and he lived there most of his life.

He joined the military in 1982 in Grants Pass. He was a Medical Specialist. David also was a medic for the National Guard. He was a veteran of both Gulf War conflicts beginning with Desert Storm through Iraqi Freedom in the Army. He received several achievement awards as well as several honorary medals.

David resided in California from 1984 to 2007. He lived the remainder of his life in Sweet Home.

He was Christian. He collected miniature toys and hats. He loved NASCAR.

David is survived by: his wife of 20 years, Jodi Smoyer-Cowger of Sweet Home; daughters, Krystal Lee Cowger of Newport and Kalynn Lee Cowger of Sweet Home; step-son, Corey Brandon Buescher of Hesperia, California; grandson, Trevin Lee Schatz of Newport; step-grandsons, Sean Buescher, Corey Buescher Jr., and Derek Buescher of Hesperia, California; mother, Gloria Cowger of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister, Carol Larkin of Michigan; a niece; and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Jon Claude Cowger, on March 22, 2011.
