Claude Artie Thomas, age 85, died on Monday. He was born in Oak Creek, Arizona to Albert Marion and Artie Mincie (Poteet) Thomas.

He served in World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945 and received his Purple Heart. He moved to Remote, Oregon after serving in the service, and then moved to Sweet Home in 1965.

Claude married Betty Jean on August 13, 1946 in Myrtle Creek, Oregon. Claude was a logger most of his life and worked in tye mills. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood work, camping, and family activities.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Thomas of Sweet Home; sons, Bryce Allen Thomas of Walden, Colorado and Barry Jay Thomas of Sweet Home; granddaughter, Dystany Alysca Thomas of Walden, Colorado; grandsons; Albert Jay Thomas of Medesto, California, Tyrell Kyle Thomas of Hoquiam, Washington, and Lester Stanly Thomas of Sweet Home; great grandson Trevor John Hoyt of Walden, Colorado; and great granddaughter, Maddison Bryant of Washington.

Claude was preceded in death by his mother, father, and all his siblings. Claude was the last living of 13 children.
