Memorial service will be 11:30 am Wednesday, June 2, at Lebanon Free Methodist Church. Burial will be 1:00 pm Wednesday at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home. Reception will follow at the Hopper family home in Foster.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Oregon Health Science University for Multiple Sclerosis Research. The Hopper family would like to express their appreciation to family and friends for their support during Carolyn’s final days.

Carolyn Hopper, 59, of Lebanon passed away Sunday. She was born in Brownfield, Texas to Clyde and Eddie (Irwin) Offutt.

Carolyn moved to Sweet Home with her family in 1956, then to Brownsville in 1962. She graduated from Central Linn High School in 1968 and was in the first graduating class of Linn Benton Community College in 1970 in Albany. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from Oregon College of Education in 1972.

She married Herb Hopper in Eugene on December 31, 1977. They resided in Lebanon and had two children, Sarah Elizabeth Hopper and Herbert Howell Hopper III (Beau).

Carolyn was a member of the Lebanon Free Methodist Church. She retired October 31, 2007 from the Oregon State Hospital, where she was very active in the Oregon Public Employees Union.

Carolyn enjoyed sewing, leather working, reading and spending time with her husband, family and beloved dogs Buster and Fancy. She had a long time interest in spinning wool and recently obtained two spinning wheels. She was very active in the Scio Buckaroos, OET (Oregon Equestrian Trails), Mid Valley Saddle Club, and CMA (Christian Motorcyclist Association).

She is survived by: husband, Herb Hopper of Lebanon; daughter, Sarah Hopper of Portland; son, Beau Hopper of McMinnville; stepdaughters, Cathie Kropf of Halsey, Charlotte Roska of Lebanon, Cheryl Wirth of Sweet Home and Virginia Smithburg of Albany; sister, Nancy Jean Petermen of Lebanon; brothers, George Offutt of Sweet Home, Ernest Offutt of Marcola, and Allen Offutt of Lebanon; grandson, Darren Ray Hopper of McMinnville; 14 step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents and step-grandson Darren Paxton.
