Barbara Ann Kimball Scanlon
June 26, 1949 – May 20, 2025
Barbara Ann Kimball Scanlon, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on June 26, 1949, in Lebanon, Oregon, to Samuel Howard Kimball and Pearl Sadie Birdsall, Barbara’s life was shaped by her love for her family and the meaningful relationships she built along the way.
Barbara’s early years were marked by frequent moves as her family followed her father’s work with Philco Ford. These moves took them to Alaska, Washington, California, Pennsylvania, and eventually back to Oregon.
She attended Oregon College of Education, where she was a proud member of the dance team and choir—interests that continued to bring her joy throughout her life. Barbara made her home in Newport, Oregon, where she spent 50 years devoted to raising her family and building a life filled with love. In 2021, she moved to Corvallis to be closer to her daughters and their families.
Barbara enjoyed working in her yard, teaching dance aerobics, and especially watching her grandchildren play sports. Faith was an important part of her life, and it provided her with strength, purpose, and comfort through all seasons. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She is survived by her daughters, Carie (Shane) Cyphers and Christie (Troy) Painter; grandchildren, Nicole (Will) Christiansen, Trenton Cyphers, Jenna Cyphers, and Elli Painter; and great-grandson, Beau Christiansen. She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel (1975); mother, Pearl (2016); sister, Nancy (2015); and brother, William (2023).
Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, her kindness, her deep faith, and the love she shared so generously with those around her.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Barbara by spending time with loved ones and enjoying a beautiful day outside—just as she would have liked. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com.
