Edward E. Winkler, 86, of Sweet Home passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026, after an extended period of poor health. Ed was born on March 12, 1940 in Albany, Oregon to Winifred I. and Jessie Marie (Myer) Winkler. The family lived in Sweet Home for most of Ed’s growing up years. He graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1958.

He enlisted in the Air Force and served at Beal Air Force Base in northern California as a cook for four years. It was during this time that he married Loretta Sue O’Neill and they returned to Sweet Home. Ed then began his decades long career as a truck driver, usually hauling logs. In addition to truck driving he also loved guns and motorcycles, of which he owned many throughout his life, including two Harleys of which he was very proud. And he loved Sweet Home wrestling. He spent many evenings sitting on the bottom row of the high school bleachers with his buddies watching the Huskies and celebrating their many wins with them. He was a jovial guy with a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh.

He is survived by his son Dean Winkler and brother Rick Burnett and wife Alice of Sweet Home; sister Winnie Robertson and husband Ken of LaQuinta, CA; grandchildren: Whitney Spenst and Dustin Winkler of Sweet Home, Kelsey Schultz of Albany, Samantha Flores of Hillsboro; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Red Burnett, daughters: Dawn Winkler and Tina Winkler, brother Joe Winkler, and nephew Keegan Burnett.

A viewing will be 5 pm to 7 pm, Monday April 27th at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Graveside service with military honors will be 12 pm, Tuesday, April 28th at Alpine Cemetery. A celebration of life will be 12 pm, Wednesday, April 29th at Sweet Home Evangelical Church. Both services are open to all who would like to attend. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Sweet Home Wrestling. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com.

Vicki Lynn Leach, 57, of Sweet Home, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026 after a courageous seven-year battle with ALS. She was born on January 20, 1969, in Lebanon.

Vicki remained deeply connected to the community she called home throughout her life. Vicki was a devoted wife, mother, and friend whose strength, kindness, and love touched everyone who knew her. Throughout her illness, she faced each day with resilience and grace, inspiring those around her with her courage.

She dedicated 25 years of service to the Oregon Department of Forestry, where she worked as a dispatcher and played a vital role in supporting wildfire crews by coordinating and running food services on multiple fires over the years. Her work placed her at the heart of Oregon’s wildfire response community, where she was respected and appreciated by many.

Vicki also gave back generously to her community, volunteering for 25 years with the Oregon Jamboree. She was a familiar and valued presence at the event until ALS forced her to step away, something she did with the same quiet strength that defined her life.

She is survived by her loving husband, Alvie Leach; her mother: Roberta “Bobbi”; her children, Tiffini, Phillip, Marcus, and Emily; grandchildren: Grayden, Gabriella, Hayden, Isabelle, Perry, Kate, Lincoln, Michael, Noah, Oz; who were the center of her world. She was preceded in death by her nephew that she raised, Tristan (2009). Her family will forever cherish her unwavering love, guidance, and the countless memories they shared together.

Vicki will be remembered for her warm heart, her dedication to her family and community, and the steady, giving spirit she carried into everything she did. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Frances Ann Thums, 92, of Sweet Home, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, just two days shy of her 93rd birthday. She lived a full and vibrant life marked by deep faith, strong family ties, a spirit of adventure, and a lifelong love of the outdoors.

Frances was born on March 23, 1933, in Rib Lake, Wisconsin. In August of 1937, she moved with her family to Oregon, where she would spend much of her life. She briefly worked in Eugene before relocating to California, where she lived with her sisters in the Bay Area and worked for various insurance companies.

In 1970, Frances returned to Sweet Home to help care for her parents. What began as an act of devotion became a lifelong commitment, as she remained there for the rest of her years. Her love for her family was at the center of everything she did, and she was a constant source of support, strength, and warmth.

Frances had a deep appreciation for travel and adventure. She explored countries around the world, including many throughout Europe, and took a particularly special trip to China. These journeys were made even more meaningful as she always traveled alongside her beloved sisters, sharing experiences and creating lifelong memories together.

A woman of deep faith, Frances was a devoted Catholic and a longtime parishioner at St. Helen in Sweet Home. Her faith guided her life, shaping her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength.

An active and energetic woman, Frances found joy in many pursuits. She loved playing tennis, skiing, biking along quiet country roads, taking ballet lessons, practicing the piano, and was an avid reader of classic literature. She also enjoyed gardening, hiking, and walking her dogs. She played an important role in her family’s logging business, often driving parts up into the Cascade Mountains to support operations.

Frances also had a special fondness for Shirley Temple memorabilia. She collected news clippings, photographs, and dolls, and shared how much she admired Shirley Temple and the remarkable career she built.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joe, and her sister Hildegarde. She is survived by her siblings Mary and Herbert, and her nephew Michael and his wife Gail, along with their three children Aidan, Elise and Amalie, who will forever cherish her adventurous spirit, her kindness, and her unwavering love.

Frances had a joyful spirit and a love for life’s simple pleasures. If you happen to enjoy a Mai Tai, please raise a glass in her honor, remembering the joy she brought to so many.

Her life was one of quiet strength, deep loyalty, and joyful exploration, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Sweet Home. The rosary service will begin at 11:00 am. Funeral mass will be at 11:30 am. Final burial will be at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Lebanon. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com.

December 17, 1953 - March 15, 2026

Randi Lee Hilton, 72, of Lebanon, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2026. He was born December 17, 1953 to Minnie (Hauge) and Jess Hilton in Oakridge, Oregon. He was the youngest of seven children: Claudine, Bob, Herb, Faye, Barbara and Jack.

He married Theresa (Mitzelfeldt) 1982. Together they had two children.

He worked as a firefighter and EMT for 14 years and then in law enforcement for another 14 years. He worked at the Oakridge Fire Department, Alpine Ambulance, Willamette Falls and Buck Medical in the Sandy, Estacada and Portland area. He finished his career at the Oregon Department of Corrections in 2005.

Randi loved the Oregon Coast and enjoyed going on long scenic wilderness drives. He also liked to fish and hunt.

Randi is survived by his wife Theresa Hilton, his son James Hilton, his daughter Sarah Hilton, and three grandchildren, Chayne, Chaz and Kyla.

He did not want a service, choosing to donate to further health and training. For remembrance he would ask you to take a long walk or drive out into nature.
