Susie Fay Groshong, 89, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away peacefully in her sleep onTuesday, October 16. She was born in Opheim, Montana to Paul M. and Ethel Elizabeth (Roberts) Duncan. She lived most of her life in Sweet Home and graduated from Sweet Home High School.
Susie was a wonderful homemaker, loving mother, and devoted grandmother. She was always there for anyone in need, and no one ever left her home hungry or without a smile on their face.
She was a rock hound and loved collecting all types of rocks; loved all Native American art, especially jewelry, and gardening and baking. She also loved guns. Anyone who knew her will fondly recall the name “Deadeye Susie.” She especially loved the Oregon Coast—the ocean and fresh crab were two of her favorite things. She had an amazing spirit that embraced all who knew her, and her legacy and love will live on in each and every member of her family.
Susie is survived by her children, Allan Godell, Marion Williams, Roger Godell, Marilyn Godell, Julie (Wilson) Evans, and Arlyn Groshong; seventeen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and siblings Patrick, Duncan, and Elsie Anderson, Rose Fox, and Peggy Reller.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son and our brother, Gregory Godell, in 2004; husband Dale Godell in 1994; husband Royal Groshong in 2015; siblings Betty Morris, Pauline Shuker, Edna Grace Williams, and Katie Wilson; and grandson Travis Godell in 1969.
Viewing will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 25, at Gilliland Cemetery.
