Sterling Lee Edwards, 76, of Sweet Home passed away Monday, September 13. He was born in Stratton, Colorado to Sterling Morton and Pauline Belle (Dine) Edwards.
He came to Oregon as a youth and attended schools in Hillsboro. He graduated from Hillsboro High School. The day after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Lewis and served during the Korean War. After the war, he traveled cross country and settled in Oregon. He was a mill worker in Foster for 38 years.
On September 21, 1957 Sterling married Thelma Severson. They were married 52 years.
After retiring, Sterling was a rock hound. Sterling was a member of the American Legion Timber City 133 and attended Bethel Lutheran Church.
Sterling is survived by: his wife, Thelma Edwards of Sweet Home; daughter, Jill Starr of Lebanon; sisters, Dourthea Oar of Crawfordsville, Eunice Rund of Vancouver, Washington, and Shirley May of Oregon; and brothers, Floyd Edwards of Shany, Oklahoma and Dwight Edwards of Ilwaco, Washington.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his sisters, Martha Spoonmore and Ethel Dieter; and his brother, William Edwards.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, September 20, at Bethel Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
