Shain Lamont Thompson, 79, of Sweet Home passed away Monday. He was born in Lebanon to Cleo and Shirley (Watkins) Thompson.
Shain has lived in Sweet Home all his life. He started out driving log truck for Fred Santesson. He was drafted and sent to Vietnam. When he returned, he drove truck for Jack Adams. He then started his career in saw filing at Horner Saw Mill. He also worked at the old Sweet Home Lumber Company and Willamette Industries Foster Mill until it closed. Shain switched to working as a machinist for the Department of Energy until he retired.
Shain had many hobbies that he enjoyed. He loved flying his powered parachute. You may have seen him in his red, white and blue parachute. He would go to Eastern Oregon to hunt squirrel and rabbit. He loved to work in his shop, setting up gears on rear ends for Hot Rods.
He loved to go to dinner with his wife Darlene. He often went to breakfast with his group of friends. Shain loved watching his grandkids and great grandkids grow up.
Shain is survived by his daughter Darla and her husband Ron Carter; son Mike Thompson; grandchildren: Katie and her husband Leon Vineyard, Mitch and his wife Amanda Carter; great grandchildren: Vince and Lexi Vineyard; as well as nieces and a nephew all of Sweet Home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Darlene Thompson and his parents, Cleo and Shirley Thompson.
