Ruby Geraldine “Gerri” (Beaver) Moore, 82, of Sweet Home, Oregon passed away Sunday morning, November 12, 2017 quietly in her own home surrounded by family. Gerri was born December 14, 1934 in Paint Rock, Missouri. She was the second child of Henry Lee Beaver and Sylvia Della Nichols (Beaver), and the wife of Arlen Carl Moore.

Gerri grew up in Pine Valley, Missouri where she and the family lived in a small house on her aunt and uncle’s farm. She walked over two miles each way to attend first grade in a small, one-room building. In 1944, at the age of ten, she and the family moved cross country into a small skid house at a logging camp her father worked at in Sheviln, Oregon.

At age 16, shortly before she and the family moved back to Missouri, she met her husband of 66 years, Arlen Moore. Arlen made the trip back to Missouri and married Gerri. They then moved back to Oregon and put down roots in Sweet Home, where they would live for almost 40 years.

During her tenure in Sweet Home, she worked at Snappy Service for 17 years before leaving to accept a job at Sprouse Reitz, where she worked for 21 years. During that time, she also collected rent and kept the books for Langmack Airport. Gerri had two wonderful children while in Sweet Home; Craig Moore and Janet Moore.

Gerri and her husband moved east in 1990 and built a new home just outside of Sisters, Oregon. Two years later, she started working for The Stichin’ Post in Sisters where she shared her love of sewing and quilting with people from all over the world for just over a decade. In 2004, Gerri and her husband moved back to Sweet Home where they could live close to family.

Gerri was a rare gem. She spent her whole life putting others first. In her early years, she was the soul ground crew for her husband’s aviation hobbies. She had a great love for preparing meals at holidays or gatherings of family and friends. Anyone that attending these functions would enjoy her handmade biscuits, breads, and especially homemade noodles. In her earlier years, she enjoyed riding her Honda silver wing motor cycle with her husband and their friends. Over her lifetime, she became an accomplished knitter, sewer, and quilter, making all sorts of gifts for others.

Gerri is survived by her daughter, Jan McDonald, of Sweet Home, Oregon; sister Beulah Olsen of Canby, Oregon; brother Dale Beaver of Noble, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlen Moore; parents Henry and Sylvia Beaver; son Craig Moore; and brother Loran Beaver.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers for providing Gerri and her husband such loving care over the years, especially Sharon for her devotion to staying with Gerri after her husband’s passing.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., to noon Saturday, November 18, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 12:15 p.m., at Gilliland Cemetery.
