Richard “Dick” Evans Meyers
June 25, 1942 – May 3, 2024

Richard “Dick” Evans Meyers, 81, of Sweet Home passed away Friday. He was born in Pendleton, Oregon to Harvey Richie and Dorothy Wheelock (Evans) Meyers.

Dick enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in 1959 when he was 17 while he was in High School, doing training every month. In October 1960, he went into active duty. After completing his active duty he continued serving in the reserves for a total of 32 years with the Navy. He Honorably Retired at the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

He grew up in Pendleton, Oregon and even met his future wife in the 7th Grade. Dick and Collette Lynn Courtnier were married in 1961 on June 25th (his birthday so he wouldn’t forget) while on a short leave.

Dick has lived in Pendleton, Martinez, California, Concord, California, Winchester Bay, Oregon, Moses Lake, Washington, Corvallis, Oregon and finally settled in Sweet Home in 1970.

He worked for years in radio broadcasting throughout Oregon, Washington and Northern California serving as DJ, salesman, news, engineer and station manager. In the mid 70’s he left radio and was the Executive Director for the Home Builder Association of Corvallis. For several years he was the Executive Director for both the Corvallis and Albany Associations. For the last twenty years he was owner of Outdoor Sales and Marketing Group where he worked with some of his children at various times. The company printed hunting and fishing regulations for many States.

Dick was active in the Sweet Home community. He was a member of the Sweet Home Planning Commission for over 30 years and many of those years as the Chairman, active in the Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce and received the Junior First Citizen Award from the Chamber. He was active in Cub and Boy Scouts and was proud of his sons’ Eagle Scout accomplishments.

Dick loved Disney and Disneyland. He took his family to Disneyland several times. Trips varied from RV, plane, train and automobile. On all the various trips he accompanied his children, their spouses and many grandchildren. The Family he created was very important to him.

Because of his radio career, music was very important to him and was always a part of the home. Grandkids called it grandpa’s music. He also enjoyed television, from Gilligan’s Island, Andy Griffith, Green Acres, Perry Mason, Matlock, WKRP, Hogan’s Heroes, JAG, MASH.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dick and Collette joined the church in Moses Lake, Washington where they were introduced to the Gospel by a coworker in 1968. Throughout the years he held a variety of leadership and teaching callings and responsibilities.

Dick is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years Collette Meyers of Sweet Home; children: Richard and his wife Wanda Meyers of Cottage Grove, Raymond and his wife Diana Meyers, Chantel and her husband Travis Carr all of Sweet Home, Chanae and her husband Tom Craig of Lebanon, Ryan Meyers of Portland, Rolan Meyers of Sweet Home, Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Meyers of Lemoore, California, Chaunte and her husband Tyler Cooper of Blue River, Reed and his wife Rachel Meyers of Troutdale, Rory Meyers of Albany, Reece Meyers of Springfield, Candace and her husband Parker German of New Lebanon, Indiana, Calleigh Meyers of Eugene; grandchildren: Amber and her husband Daniel Vore of Lebanon, Evan Meyers of Minot, North Dakota, Rebecca and her husband Aaron Nelson of Medford, Carson and his wife Shelbie Meyers of Eugene, Lena Meyers of Sweet Home, Rachel and her husband Corbett Williams of Jacksonville, Florida, Emma and her husband Carson Hernandez of Provo, Utah, Travis Carr of Sweet Home, Trevor Carr of Albany, Lacey Carr, Raylynn Meyers, Trenton Carr, Trey Carr all of Sweet Home, Texas Meyers of Albany, Tripp Carr of Sweet Home, Alyvia Meyers of Albany, Aldan Meyers of Dayton, Nona Cooper of Blue River, Rainier Meyers of Dayton, Astrid Cooper of Blue River, Violet German of New Lebanon, Indiana, Brixley Cooper of Blue River and one on the way; great grandchildren: Dean, Hana, Miles Vore, Charlie, Elizabeth, Millie, Abigail Nelson, Zander, Layne, Benson, Daphnie Meyers, Scarlett and Sage Williams and two on the way; daughter in-law Debra Meyers of Wisconsin; adopted daughter Lorna of Sweet Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Dorothy Meyers; sisters: Marge Welch, Carol Zander, his son Robert Meyers; grandchild Tristan Carr.

Viewing will be 4 pm – 7 pm, Friday, May 17, 2024, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweet Home, followed by graveside service with military honors at Gilliland Cemetery.
