Reta Elizabeth Braaten, 72, of Sweet Home passed away Wednesday. She was born in Spokane, Washington to Thomas Malcolm and Norma Elizabeth (Soderstrom) Pace.

She served in the United States Army as a Cryptologist during the early 1960’s. She has lived in San Diego, California, Vancouver, Washington, Chicago, Illinois, Arlington, Texas, Las Vegas, Nevada and moved to Sweet Home in 1994.

Reta retired from the State of Oregon in the Sweet Home Vocational Rehabilitation office.

She loved reading, cooking and traveling.

Reta is survived by her husband Donald Braaten of Sweet Home; children: Lorraine Forbes of Las Vegas, Nevada, Denise Salvador of Sweet Home, April Reckling of Las Vegas, Nevada, Matthew Forbes of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; step-children: Lyle Braaten, Denise Rochelle Braaten-Burrow; sister Kaye Gorham of Reno, Nevada; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by step-daughter Dawn Ann Slay.
