Melvin Eugene Claborn Sr., 82, of Sweet Home passed away Monday. He was born in Glover, Oklahoma to Dewey and Minnie N. (Chaney) Claborn.

Melvin served in the United States Navy from January 1958 thru March 1962.

He moved to Sweet Home in the early 60’s. He built his home in 1973 with his wife. He passed away at his home on Old Holley in Sweet Home.

Melvin helped build several reservoir dams. He then worked at Sweet Home Sanitation until retirement in 2004.

He enjoyed hunting when he was younger, feeding his cows, building things including wooden toys. He loved playing with his grandkids.

Melvin is survived by his wife Shirleen Claborn; two sons: David, Gene Jr; five grandkids: Emily and Tyler Rhoads, Miya, Kaitlyn and Kelly Claborn; two great grandkids: Kyler and Easton Rhoads; brothers: John Henry and Monroe Claborn; sisters: Martha Mills and Lee Claborn.

He was preceded in death by his mom, dad and sister.
