Mary Ann Stilwell, 89, of Albany passed away Tuesday. She was born in Yaquina Bay to William and Retta (Gibson) Hopper.

She grew up in Toledo. They moved to Sweet Home when Mary was a Senior in High School, she attended Sweet Home High for a time but had to quit due to illness.

Mary met Denton Stilwell at a cousin’s house in December 1950 and they were married March 25, 1951. They had 53 years together. They enjoyed many church activities and worked on many projects as well. Mary was treasurer for many years at Elm Street Baptist Church.

She and her husband enjoyed camping at big meadows with their horses. She was wonderful at crochet and made many beautiful afghans and tablecloths.

Mary is survived by her children: Retta (Daniel) Jones, Linda (Dan) Hutchins and Dean (Susan) Stilwell all of Sweet Home; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Denton Stilwell; parents: William and Retta Hopper; sisters: Florence, Myrtle, Hazel, Vivian; brothers: Merritt and Morse.

A Graveside Service will be 1:00 pm Thursday December 9th at Liberty Cemetery.
