Margaret Dorene Schmid, 90, of Sweet Home passed away Tuesday. She was born in Sistersville, West Virginia to Archibald and Della (Fisher) Thomas.

She had lived in: Akron, Ohio; Corpus Christi, Texas; and Downey, Cayucos, and Vista, California. She moved to Sweet Home in 1990.

Margaret worked as Children’s Education Director of Vista Community Church in Vista, California and as director and teacher for children’s ministry at First Baptist Church in Downey, California.

She was an active member of the Sweet Home Evangelical Church. She loved oil painting and playing the organ and piano.

Margaret is survived by: her daughter, Kathryn Prior of Auburn, California; sons; William Randall Schmid of Placentia, California, Robert M. Schmid of Salem, Oregon, and Richard W. Schmid of Salem, Oregon; sister, Ruth Frohmuth of West Fir, Oregon; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Schmid, in 2005.

A viewing will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, at Sweet Home Evangelical Church. Final burial will be at Lewis Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
