Viewing will be at noon on Monday, November 12, at the 18th and Long Church of Christ. Her funeral will follow at 1:00 pm, with a final burial at Gilliland Cemetery. Contributions in Mable’s name can be made to the Diabetes Association or charity of choice. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Mable Anna Kirk, age 83, of Sweet Home passed away Wednesday. She was born in Molalla, Oregon to Peter and Gladys (Prink) Kister.
Mable married Joe Kirk in 1942. After WWII, the couple came to Sweet Home and decided to make their home here. Joe drove log trucks and Mable raised a family.
She was involved in Royal Neighbor’s and the American Legion Auxilliary in Sweet Home. Mable enjoyed sewing, needle work, and crocheting. She gave away many of the things she made. She baked, made candy, and gardened all summer long when she was younger. Before Joe passed away, they liked to travel and would go to Arizona. She continued corresponding with the people she met in her travels for many years after.
Mable is survived by four children, Joyce Farris of Sweet Home, Janice Elaine Kent of Albany, Joe Kirk Jr. of Lebanon, and Curtis Kirk of Springfield; six siblings; nine grandchildren; Mark, Denise, Aaron, Sarah, Jennifer, Macey, Joe M. Heidi, and Jason; and twelve great grandchildren.
Mable was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Kirk, and one sister.
