Leslie “Les” Hunter, 70, of Sweet Home, passed away Monday, September 29, 2025 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.

He was born on February 27, 1955 to Wilda J. (Brooks) and Harry L. Hunter in
Newport, Oregon. He grew up and attended school in Waldport and moved to Sweet Home after graduation.

Les worked in the logging industry at Tomco and then Willamette Industries. He drove log truck with the CB handle “Hammer Head” eventually moving on to logging equipment operator, until his retirement in 2015.

He and his wife Laurie shared many adventures through out their loving marriage. Les was loving, compassionate and honorable man. He was not afraid to show his love towards his wife, family or friends. If you were one of the lucky ones you got a BIG Les hug. He was witty with a great sense of humor. But had a quiet kindness about him.

Les was an avid outdoorsman – he loved to hunt, camp and explore. He was quite a successful hunter earning the nickname “Lucky Les” He loved his poker buds and going to visit friends at “the senior center” aka Bohunk Tavern. He enjoyed life and the promise of a new adventure, traveling in their RV.

He was brave and gracious during his illness, staying positive when hope was fading. His absence has left a huge void in all who loved him.

We will miss the wisdom in your advice, the sound of your voice, your laughter, your stories and just being in your presence.“The love of one will live in the hearts of many forever.”

He is survived by his wife Laurie of 43 years; two adopted grandkids, Wyatt and Dylan; sisters: Jackie Lampley, Kathy Dunn, Judy Hunter, Linda Blanchard, many nieces, nephews and life long friends. He was preceded in death by his father Harry L. Hunter, mother Wilda J. (Brooks) Hunter, brother Ronald Hunter and numerous dear friends.

A celebration of life will be 2 pm – 5 pm, Sunday, November 9th at the Sweet Home Elks Lodge. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com.
