Leroy Poage was a larger-than-life figure who embraced the outlaw spirit and lived a life packed with adventure, humor, and grit. Born in Oklahoma City, Leroy’s journey began with a spark of daring and a knack for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.

In his youth, Leroy was a championship-winning trap shooter, a quick-drawing gunfighter at a theme park, and even donned the barrel as a rodeo clown—all pursuits that spoke to his fearless nature and undeniable charisma. Never one to sit still, he owned and operated the Rockin’ P Ranch, ran an oil and gas company, and helmed several trucking businesses. Leroy was the kind of man who could spin a yarn as well as he could spin his wheels, and his ventures left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.

In the 1990s, Leroy moved to Oregon, where he channeled his passion and energy into becoming a staunch advocate for medical cannabis and an active member of NORMAL. His unwavering belief in helping others guided his efforts, and he proudly stood on the frontlines of change. After moving to Sweet Home in 2002, Leroy cultivated a life rich with friendship and community, bringing his trademark wit and warmth to all who crossed his path.

Though life wasn’t without its losses, including the passing of his beloved partner Susan Currier in 2022, Leroy remained a loving father, loyal friend, and a source of strength to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and resilience in the hearts of his family and friends.

Leroy is survived by his children, Lori Jackson and Chris Jackson (son in law), Susan Elliott, and Charlie Poage, Martha Meyers and Kimberly Gottsponer: and 14 grandchildren, Alexys Jackson, Addis Poage, Hailey Poage, Tanna Mattison, Katlyn Antham, and Jessica Elliott, David Watson Jessica Reeves, Zachary Harmon, Tyler and Joshua Shamburg, Alyssa and Forrest Ransome Steven Gottsponner: and 21 great-grandchildren, Giovanni Martinez, Harmonni Martinez, Kendall Antham, Kasen Antham, Klyde Antham, Gracelynn Hapner, and Nora Hapner, Eli and Bishop Watson, Bryson Griffin, Austin and William Phillips, Olivia, Emery and Blakely Harmon, Tyson Ransome, Braden and Wyatt Shamburg, Jane and Jace Gottsponer. As well as countless friends he loved like family.

Leroy Poage lived his life as boldly as he told his stories: full of heart, courage, and just the right amount of mischief. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a true outlaw and loving patriarch.
