LaVerne M. Sandrock, 87, of Philomath, Oregon passed away Tuesday, August 22. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Otto A. and Adele B. (Mundt) Zastrow.

She attended South Division High School. She was in the Class of 1948. She received a bachelor’s degree from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. She married George Sandrock on August 30, 1958 at Attonement Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

LaVerne taught 5th and 6th grades at Attonement Lutheran School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 1951 to 1975. She lived in Milwaukee and West Allis, Wisconsin until she and her husband moved to Philomath in 1977. “A DREAM LED THEM TO GOD’S COUNTRY.”

She was a member of Peace Lutheran in Philomath and helped maintain Mt. Union Cemetery for many years.

LaVerne enjoyed playing and watching tennis, knitting, Sudoku, tutoring, bowling, and gardening. She loved baking goodies and pies.

She is survived by sister-in-law, Nancy Zastrow, of Dunkirk, New York; nieces Laurel Zastrow of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Melissa Zastrow and children of Dunkirk, New York, and Marcy Zastrow of Tonawanda, New York; cousins Carol Shields of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Lenora Beyersdorf of Brookfield, Wisconsin; many friends and her faithful and beloved Basenji, “Rocky.”

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, George Sandrock, in 1981 and brother, Marvin Zastrow, in 2015.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 25, at Peace Lutheran Church in Philomath.
