Leo Gregory Matz, 62, of Lebanon passed away Friday, July 26, 2024. Greg was born August 2, 1961, in Klamath Falls, OR. When he was 3, his family came to Lebanon.  He left Lebanon to go to technical college in Phoenix, and to serve a mission for his church. He was called to serve in the Independence, Missouri mission and mainly served his time in Kansas.

Upon arriving home from his mission, he met and married his sweetheart, Sheri Sanders in the Seattle Washington LDS temple. They have been blessed with 6 children, 4 son-in-laws and 9 grandloveables.

Greg and Sheri lived in Forest Grove where he started his education in Radiation Use and Safety for the OHSU sheep farm where he did ultrasounds and other care for the sheep. They then moved to Vernonia where he also began raising his own sheep and shearing sheep for other farmers. He always wanted to move back to Lebanon which they did in 1991 with daughters Amber, Brittni and Hollie. Later adding Ryan, Heather and Breanna to the family.

Greg was a local builder and remodeler of homes in the area. He was always willing to lend a helping hand which he was doing when he passed. Greg was highly involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

His family was always first and he enjoyed spending time in the outdoors; camping, fishing and crabbing. His favorite place to be was out on the water. He also enjoyed shooting black powder rifles and had recently gotten into RC cars.

He is survived by his wife, Sheri Sanders Matz; children, Amber Ebbs and husband Raymon, Brittni Kruse and husband Trevor, Hollie Rathbun and husband Kyle, Heather Bird and husband Kevin, and Breanna Matz; nine grandloveables, Hudson, Lydia, Eloise, Freya, Rogue, Penn, Clara, Asher and Rowan; mother Judith Ann Matz; siblings, Deborah (Matz) Patton and Kari (Matz) Storkson.
